About this tool
The Good Neighbors Toolkit shows how much housing displacement pressure and homelessness each local homelessness region (HUD Continuum of Care) faces, with state-level summaries. It rates each area on how housing prices compare with local incomes and on its share of people counted as homeless. This helps local leaders see where displacement and homelessness pressures are highest.
- Shows
- Housing displacement pressure and homelessness for each Continuum of Care and each state, including a rating for housing price-to-income levels and for the share of people counted as homeless in the point-in-time count.
- Places
- Continuums of Care, States
Questions it answers
- How severe is housing displacement pressure in my local Continuum of Care?
- How does my area's share of people counted as homeless compare with other areas?
- How have housing price-to-income ratios changed over time in my region?
- Which states have the highest levels of homelessness and displacement pressure?
- What rating does my community receive for displacement and for homelessness?
Limits
- Data for 2020 is missing from the one-year Census survey source, so that year is skipped or estimated.
- The most recent year of some housing measures is a projection rather than a survey result.
- Housing measures come from Census survey estimates, which carry some uncertainty.
